thoughts from a Christ follower

Do you see life as a blessing or a burden?  Yesterday I shared a message from Ephesians 1…I asked people to consider how we are blessed in Christ.  Verses 3 – 14 unfold for us a number of ways that we are blessed in Christ:

  • blessed with every spiritual blessing
  • chosen by God
  • adopted into his family
  • accepted with the one he loves
  • redeemed through the blood of Christ
  • forgiven for sins
  • promised a great inheritance
  • sealed by the Holy Spirit

We learn that these blessings come through faith in Christ, as we believe in Him, God includes us in His family.  I am continuing to pray that we can all come to understand the depth of what these blessings mean for us.  That God will give us wisdom and revelation to know Him, to open our eyes to the hope that is before us, and to help us grasp His power at work within our lives.

Even as we consider all of these spiritual blessings we begin to ask what about the physical burdens?  Life is still hard at times, however understanding the spiritual allows to endure the difficulties and even enjoy the journey.  Our trust and confidence is that with God as our Father, He will not let us go or leave us to face the challenges alone.  He has given us His Son and has Sealed us with His Spirit. He can be trusted to carry us through whatever valleys we forge or to enable us to climb whatever mountains we attempt to climb.  To the praise of His glory and with his wonderful grace in mind, He has already given us far more than we deserve, and has promised us an even greater future.

It’s Monday

Mondays can be tough days…can you relate?  Monday means back to the grindstone, no more weekend of recreation and relaxation but instead back to work and the weekly routine.  So how can Monday become a day that we are energized by the promise of another week that we enjoy, instead of the start of the days that we endure to just countdown to the weekend?

Well today I decided to start with giving thanks — first thanking God that he loves me just as I am and is patiently working to reshape my life so that I can live up to the potential that he has placed before me. (Philippians 1:6, Hebrews 12,1,2)  I thanked him for another day of life and for the life with which he has blessed me. (John 10:10)  I thanked God that I get to serve him and even get paid for it…I thanked him for allowing me to represent him in the lives of others and for the weekly opportunity to speak his truth into the lives of others.  I thanked him for all of the people that serve along with me here at Brightside Church as I walked around the various classrooms and ministry settings.  (Romans 12:3-8)

As well as thanking him for what he has done I am praying expectantly with thanksgiving for all that he is yet to do.  Holding onto his promises of continuing to work all things together for good as I strive to fulfill his purposes for me.  (Philippians 4:6,7, Romans 8:28)  I am learning to trust him more each day, even on Monday – He who has promised us his constant love and care is faithful.

This approach is working for me, I would ask you to give it a try.  How are you doing this Monday?  I encourage you to begin with giving thanks and then releasing the burdens on your heart to God.  He tells us that we can come to him boldly and find mercy and the help we need, even on Monday. (Hebrews 4:16)  So lets look forward to today and each day this week, anticipating more of God’s blessings and provisions as we pursue his purpose and live out his plans.  I am praying for you on this wonderful Monday – our start to another great week with our Father God who loves us more than we can possible understand.  (Matthew 6:25-34)

Monday Motivation

Mondays can be tough days to find motivation.  For some people, its because the weekend is gone and that means back to the “grindstone”.  For others it means more of the mundane, wishing away the week in hopes of a fun filled and or restful weekend.  As a pastor I find that Mondays are often a day of recovery…pouring out my heart on Sunday takes a lot of energy and Monday means that Sunday is coming again and I have to do it all over.  There is a common thread for all of us – it is Monday and that means we have the whole week ahead of us… it is necessary to recharge and make the most of our week.  Let’s live with anticipation of all that we can accomplish, but how can we find that motivation?  God

Look to God in prayer, share your feelings and fears as well as your hopes and dreams.  Listen to God’s voice speak truth into your chaos of the voices in your head that would discourage you…find motivation through the principles and the promises of the Scriptures.  Here are a couple that may help you today:

  • God is at work in your life – assurance of his presence and activity will change your perspective and will inspire you to live in the moment, even if it is Monday.  I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.  Philippians 1:6
  • God will enable you to do it – even when you are ready to give up remember that He has called you to life in Christ and isn’t going to give up on you.  For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.  Philippians 2:13
  • Sometimes you have to step out or press on in faith and do your part and trust that God will do his.  It just may be that He is already working “upstream” – step into the water and trust Him.  (check out the story in Joshua 3)

I also found motivation in reading these two blogs today so I thought that I would share them with you.

So join me in finding motivation on this Monday to press on and do the work that God has called us to.
