thoughts from a Christ follower

Freedom

In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. Ephesians 3:12. Jesus gives us access to God, faith in him is the key that unlocks the chains that bind us. No one wants to be shackled, and given the opportunity everyone would choose freedom, however many times we allow our fears to keep us from freedom.

Faith in Jesus frees us to approach God with confidence, knowing that he cares for us as His children. Jesus teaches his followers about prayer in Matthew 6. He teaches us that we are free to pray honestly to God v 5, we don’t have to be eloquent, just humble to trust in and to call upon our Heavenly Father. Prayer allows us to fight for our independence, from things that often have us in bondage, by placing our lives in total dependence upon our Heavenly Father.

Here are Five Freedoms that We Receive Through Prayer: Matthew 6:9-13

Freedom from hopelessness vs 9, Our father which art in heaven, hallowed be your name…as we learn to trust in our Heavenly Father, praising him as our God, we realize that we are in his care.

Freedom from anxiety v10, Your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is…we don’t have to stress over trying to build our own kingdom, we are joint heirs with Christ, Romans 8:17. We don’t have to worry about the future, our God is working out his will and God’s plans and purposes will not fail.

Freedom from fear v11, Give us today our daily bread…No worries about prosperity v19 -24, No worries about provision v 25 -34, our father God knows our needs and will provide for us v 8,32…Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7 NLT

Freedom from guilt v12, Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. Through Jesus we have the opportunity to find forgiveness from sin’s debt – “the wages of sin is death” Romans 6:23, forgiveness for sins that we commit 1 John 1:9, and the ability to forgive others.

Freedom from sin’s control over us v13, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one…Direction – God show us the way to live (Ephesians 5:1-17), leads us along the way proverbs 3:5,6 ,and protects us from the evil one (See Jesus’ prayer in John 17).

So refuse to be shackled, call out to God. Find and or enjoy the blessing of independence today by learning to depend fully on God in prayer. Release it that you might receive it!

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7 NLT
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. Colossians 4:2 NLT
