thoughts from a Christ follower

Next Steps

I often find myself contemplating next steps. what should I do next to get closer to my desired destination? Where is God leading me and how can I faithfully follow his direction? Sometimes following Jesus seems like walking around in the dark…it’s difficult to navigate around obstacles that we cannot see and is many times frustrating to not know the next step because we can’t see where we going. Have you ever thought that It would be so much easier if he would just shine a light on the path? I was reminded recently that He has, he has given us the ultimate light, His written Word. “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path” Psalms 119:105.

The problem is that we often look to our own understanding instead of trusting in His wisdom. Who would walk in the dark with a flashlight in hand, continuing to walk into things, trip over them, and stumble around aimlessly because they refuse to turn on the light? You would think after a few bruises and stubbed toes, bumps on the head, and many wasted wandering hours that one would use the light. But aren’t we just like that when we don’t open the Bible and follow the life giving principles and direction that God has given us?

God help me to, stop wandering in the dark and to turn on the light…as I open the Bible, lead me through the steps of life found there. Help me to apply your truth, trust in your wisdom, and to walk in the light.

Trust in The Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5,6
