Focus that leads to Hope

What are you focusing on?  This is an important question because our focus has much to do with our hopefulness.  Many times life seems hopeless because we find ourselves focusing on all that seems to be wrong in life.  Here is a great idea…focus on all the things that are right.  When you sense that you are losing hope because of the way life is going, stop and refocus.  Choose to focus on all that is right – on the fact that God loves you and is at work in your life.  He will not give up on you – He can do more than you can ask or even imagine, and He will finish what He started.  (Philippians 1:6, 2:12,13, Ephesians 3:20, Hebrews 12:2)

Let’s choose to focus on all that is right because of God’s work in our lives instead of thinking that He isn’t interested or paying attention…here are some great focal points from 2 Corinthians 4:

  • As Christ followers we have a great purpose  – knowing Him and making Him known  3:17 – 4:5
  • God can make light shine through darkness vs 6
  • Jesus is the light that has overcome the darkness 5,6
  • God has made us vulnerable on purpose  vs 7 (so that we will keep depending on Him)
  • Things may be difficult but they are not hopeless vs 8, 9
  • One day the suffering that you are going through will be useful to share hope in Christ with someone else vs 10-15
  • You are not alone – God has given you people to help you
  • This won’t last forever vs 16 -18 “this too shall pass”
  • Your suffering will not compare to your reward

This isn’t about the power of positive thinking – this is about the hope that thinking about the positive things of God brings to our lives.  God is at work in and around us; He is working through us and has a great purpose for our lives: know Jesus and make Him known.
