thoughts from a Christ follower

Without Jesus

Many times in our Christians lives I think that we forget what life was like without Jesus.  We have become so comfortable in our Christianity that we loose sight of tragic condition that we were in before Jesus changed our lives forever.  Let’s consider what the Bible says (Colossians 1:21) about our lives without Jesus:

  • you were once far away from God
  • you were God’s enemies
  • you were separated from God by your evil thoughts and actions

Now I’m no rocket scientist but even I can figure out that without Jesus I wasn’t in a good place…without Jesus I was without hope.  As we consider our position before God it seems as if He will just do away with us or cast us aside, but God doesn’t act toward us like we would act towards our enemy.  Instead of doing what we would expect he does the unexpected…through him (Jesus) God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. vs 20   Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body.  As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.  vs 22

Thankfully the story doesn’t end with our hopeless condition without Jesus, but instead comes to a climax with God translating us from death to life, from separation to his presence, and from condemnation to forgiveness…we who were guilty have been forgiven.

I am overjoyed that I never have to go back to life without Jesus.  As I remember life without Jesus and as I grow in my understanding of life in Him I am compelled to share the good news of all that God has done for us through Jesus with those who are yet without Jesus.

So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us.  We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.  Colossians 1:28
