God is Great

As I was reading this morning, I came upon the following verse – Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise!
No one can measure his greatness. (Psalm 145:3 NLT)

It made me stop to think and question myself…is this my view of God?  Funny question for a pastor, but to be honest even pastors can get weighed down with life and sometimes lose sight of God’s greatness because of the great challenges or problems we face.  What I have found is that it is a matter of focus – if I look at all the problems or challenges it becomes difficult to see God’s greatness, but if I look at God’s greatness and then consider all that is before me I begin to see possibilities instead of problems.

So how then do I change my focus…I return to child – like faith.  Remember that prayer we said as kids?  “God is great, God is good, let us thank him for our food.”  What if we began our days with that simple reminder?  Instead of wondering how we could possibly make it through or figure things out we would be lost in wonder of how truly great and good our God really is.  What if we looked at God with the same sense of awe that a kid, who has a great dad,  looks at their dad…that kid doesn’t look at life and contemplate all the possibilities for failure but instead believes that he or she can do anything because their dad is on their side and will be there to catch them if they jump.

What if we really understood that nothing is impossible with God?  What if we believed that God is good all the time and he is greater than anything else?  Instead of worry we would begin to worship, instead of fretting we would follow his plan, and instead of complaining we would use our voices for praising…God help us to realize your greatness and to remember your goodness.  We come to this realization and find these reminders in His Word.  Here are a couple of other verses from Psalm 145 to build your faith in the fact that God is great!

vs 9 The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.

vs 13 …The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.

vs 16 You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

vs 17 The LORD is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made.

vs 18 the LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
