thoughts from a Christ follower

Is the Bible really true?

Recently while preparing a message on how God speaks to us through His Word a question came up: Do we really believe the Bible is true?  Maybe the answer (that few truly believe and more really doubt it is absolute truth) is why many don’t make time to read it.  This got me thinking, why do I believe the Bible is true?  Below you will find my reasons.

  • Because I have experienced personally its power and practical application and relevance in my own life as well as the lives of others.
  • In all of my studies I have never found any place that it contradicts itself – this is amazing considering that it was written by some 40 different people, over a span of more than 1600 years in 3 languages in various geographical areas.
  • The centrality of its message – its central theme from start to finish is God relating to His people through His Son.
  • Archaeology, Science, and History all substantiate it.
  • The honesty of the authors, those whom God used to write the Scriptures, wrote within the cultures that surrounded them, within the framework of their own personalities, and included an honest expression from the lives that they lived.  They included not only their successes, but also their failures and did not write to paint themselves in a better light than which they really lived.
  • The exact or precise fulfillment of 300 prophecies that were written hundreds of years  beforehand met in Jesus Christ.

It is hard to explain the absolute truth of the Scriptures here in a few words, but hopefully this gives you a few things to think through and some more confidence in the validity of God’s Word.  If you have questions please feel free to email me  – when you begin to understand that the Bible is absolute truth and believe this with conviction then you will take time to hear from God by taking the time to read His Word, the Holy Bible.

Here are a couple of links that you can look at for some further insight and thoughts (I don’t know a lot about these 2  sites as a whole but they have some good thoughts on this subject).

Here is one I trust a little more that is more in depth.
