God Speaks

Although I have never heard God speak in an audible voice, many times I have heard Him shout.  A God who has consistently communicated, who has created us and then reconciled us for a relationship with Him, and who has spared no expense in speaking to us through His Son will surely continue to communicate with us.

We can open the Bible and read of His love and find hope as we listen to His Word.  We can read the life-giving truths He has recorded for us there and hear His assurance, activity, and grace.  He sometimes whispers and gives us hope and confidence in times when we question His plan, reminding us that He is in control and holds it all together. (Colossians 1:15,16)  Other times He reminds us that He is always with us even when we struggle to sense His presence: He has promised to always be there and to never fail us. (Hebrews 13:5,6)  Then when we have miserably failed or when we are just plain miserable He shouts I love you this much.  (Romans 5:8; 1John 3:16)

When we don’t know where to turn or which turns to take He directs our steps and helps us to know the way …we just have to acknowledge Him and then trust Him enough to obey Him.  (Proverbs 3:5,6)  We often strain to hear His voice and question if God really does speak, but this is the wrong question.  God is indeed speaking into our lives, we should be asking, “How can I hear Him”?
