thoughts from a Christ follower

Immanuel-God with us! What is the significance of Christ coming to Earth and becoming one of us?

What is the significance of Christ coming to Earth and becoming one of us?

One of the most amazing things about the Christmas story is found in the following verse: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” (Matthew 1:23 NKJV)   How overwhelming and intriguing is the thought that we can be in the presence of God.  We who are sinful, now through Jesus Christ have been given access to He who is Holy.

Here are a few thoughts to express the significance of Jesus, the Creator becoming a part of His creation:

  1. As the Word of God He is the very expression of all that God is (John 1:1-3, Hebrews 1:1-3).
  2. He is the revelation of God to us – He is the visible expression of the invisible God (Matthew 1:23; John 1:14-18; Colossians 1:15)
  3. He is the life and light of men who were dead and lost in darkness (John 1:4, 12)
  4. He gives us access to a God who was otherwise inaccessible – He is our high priest who understands and compassionately invites us to the throne of grace to find help in our time of need (Hebrews 4:14-16, 10:19-25).
  5. He is the God-Man, the mediator between a Holy God and Sinful mankind – connecting us to the Father (Hebrews 8:16, 9:15, 12:24).
  6. He came to where we were so that one day we could go to where He is (John 1:11-13).
  7. He came that we could have life and live it out in an abundant way, promising to provide all we need and to protect us from the evil one who wants to steal, kill, and destroy us (John 10:10)
  8. He is our lifeline and guarantees our success as we live in Him to bring glory to the Father (John 15:1-8).

Jesus is the ultimate Christmas light! – He overcame our darkness, showed us our need for a Savior and the way to God.  His presence is the best gift we could ever receive –There is no condemnation in Him and in Him we have the hope of a positive future.   What is the significance of Jesus coming to earth?  Everything:  It is through Him that we can know God and enter His presence, now and forevermore!
