Loving God

Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27).  But we often struggle to do so; instead we love ourselves and seek to get everything we desire.  The key to loving God with all and others as you love yourself – trusting God completely.  We often hold back from giving everything in our relationship with God and others because we fear being let down or left out.   The reality is that when we give everything over to God, we receive everything that God wants to give us (Psalm 37:4).  In loving God with all that we are, we find that God gives us the desires of our hearts.  In loving others as ourselves we find fulfillment in sharing the things that God blesses our lives with.

Others can find most of the things that we can give them, but there is one thing that they will miss if we don’t share, and it is the most important thing: a relationship with our God and the abundant eternal life that is found in Him.  We love God by obeying Him, Jesus said, “if you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:21).  The greatest of those commands is to love God with all that we are and to love our neighbor as our self.

How do we know if we love God in this way – when we don’t allow anything else to take His place in our lives.  If we truly love God we will not be able to keep it in, but it will flow in our lifestyle and in our conversation.  Our daily walk and our talk will be about God – we will live for Him and speak about how important He is to us and what He is doing through us to anyone who will listen.
